- Immediately aspiring to become a fighter pilot, Vinay attempted to join the Indian Air force but was not selected due to height requirements, Undeterred, he set sites on the Indian Navy and succeeded on his first attempt, joining the force 3 years prior two his untimely death.

The ashes of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, were immersed in the Ganga at Har ki Pauri. His father and brother reached Haridwar with his ashes from Karnal in Haryana and immersed the ashes in the Ganga at Har ki Pauri as per rituals.
While immersing the ashes Vinay Narwal’s father kept crying and remembering his son. Tirtha priest Suraj performed the immersion of ashes. During this, Haridwar MLA, other BJP leaders and officials of Sainik welfare Department paid tribute to the martyr.
