Kashyap Pramod Vinod Patel was born on February 25, 1980 in Garden City, New York to Indian Gujarati immigrant parents. His parents first moved to Kannada from Uganda, East Africa in the early 1970’s. Subsequently, they moved to the United States and his father worked as a financial officer for an aviation firm. Patel was raised the Hindu faith. Patel graduated from Garden City high school on long Island.
After High school, Petal and BA in history and criminal justice from the University of Richmond in 2002. He completed his JD from Pace University school of law, New York in 2005.

Public Defender (2006-2014)
After completing law school, Patel moved to Florida and was admitted as a member of the Florida Bar in April 2006. He spent the next 8 years as a public defender, first in the Miami-Dade county public defenders office and later as a federal public defender. As a public defender he represented clients accused of serious crimes, including international drug trafficking, murder firearms view lessons and large amounts of cash smuggling.
Trial Attorney with Justice Department (2014-17)
In 2014, Patel was appointed as a trial attorney in the national security division of the United States department of justice, where simultaneously served as the legal liaison for the joint special operations Command.

According to the New York Times, Patel was the principal author of the 2018 Nunes memo, which allowed FBI misconduct in its application for a warrant from the foreign intelligence surveillance aide Carter Page.
